"He who finds a wife finds happiness;

it is a favor he receives from the Lord."

Proverbs 18:22

It is an honor for people to share their stories with me and help others

My wife Cindy is the greatest earthly gift I have ever known.  She keeps me humble, lifts me up and is a wonderful mother to our children.  It is her sacrifice that allows me to serve the people of the 85th District as your State Representative.

We met while attending Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa and we have been married for 31 years--nearly all of that time here in the 85th District.  The Lord has blessed us with five beautiful children.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE

I grew up as the 2nd oldest of 11 children.  My Dad was a butcher and my Mom was full-time at home.  We were a devout Catholic family and I always thought the front pew at church was permanently reserved for us each Sunday morning.

If I wasn't working at our family locker plant, grocery store or other small business, I was playing basketball.  This passion led to an athletic scholarship at Briar Cliff College where during my senior season we were the #1 ranked NAIA team in the country.

After graduating with a B.A. in Mass Communications, I worked as a reporter and sports anchor at KCAU-TV in Sioux City. I then landed a job at KWCH-TV Channel 12 in Wichita and  joined the Eyewitness News Team as an on-air reporter.  My area of expertise was crime, courts and politics.  I covered the Statehouse in the days when liquor-by-the-drink and pari-mutuel wagering were legalized in Kansas. Later, I served as Assignment Editor, Executive Editor and then Assistant News Director.

When we began our family I decided to start my own freelance writing, consulting and film production company.   I also prided myself as being a "Mr. Mom" for many years while Cindy worked for various local companies specializing in purchasing.

Our home is still a very busy place.  Our youngest child David is a senior attending Kapaun Mt. Carmel and WATC.  Billy attends Chisholm Life Skills Center (USD 259).  Daughter Libby is a Special Education teacher completing her student teaching in Kansas City after graduating from Benedictine College. Our daughter Rachel lives with her husband Parker Roth in Zurich Switzerland where he works for a tech firm.  Our oldest daughter Rebekah and her husband Ryan are teachers in Catholic Diocese of Wichita schools and they just had their first child--our first grand baby! My mother Lois Ann lives with us--my Dad lived with us until his death 2 1/2 years ago.  We have a very happy home!

My profession as a film producer and writer allows me to use my talents in creative ways, promoting various causes that are important to me.  Some of my projects include:

  • STEM CELL RESEARCH FACTS is a worldwide campaign designed to bring awareness to adult stem cell research and therapy.  Unlike embryonic stem cells which manipulate and destroy human life, adult stem cells are ethical and effective.  Check out the success stories we've reported on at: www.stemcellresearchfacts.org

  • INVITED TO COURAGEOUS LOVE is a five-part TV film series I produced that explores various topics surrounding people who experience a same-sex attraction (SSA) and seek to live a life of chastity. Find out more at www.CourageRC.org

  • AGENTS OF CHANGE is a full-length documentary looking at an emerging women's health science called NaPro TECHNOLOGY that effectively identifies and treats a wide range of reproductive conditions like infertility, PMS, postpartum depression and more.  Learn more at www.PopePaulVI.org
